IT-TRANS 2010: Technical Visit with RNV in Mannheim

What is it that makes Rhine-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (RNV) so unique? We would be pleased to show you its special characteristics at a Technical Visit in Mannheim on Friday afternoon, February 26, 2010.
RNV has developed a trend-setting regional co-operativeconcept with other communal transit agencies and has made one of Germany’s largest and most attractive conurbations easily accessible to its passengers. The traffic system, controlled from a single operations center, comprises the urban tramway, bus and railway (OEG/RHB) routes of five cities: Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, Heidelberg, Weinheim and Bad Dürkheim.
RNV’s business philosophy is to offer passengers market-compliant cost structures and a stable quality level. The basis for reliable operation is provided by a completely self-financed, cross-company, computerized operations control system supplied by Trapeze ITS. All operations control systems have been centralized; routes, work schedules, and vehicles en-route have been optimized; workshop efficiency has been enhanced; and vehicle reserves have been reduced. Costs have also been brought down by the RNV strategies to market the TETRA-Motorola radio communications network and to apply the newest-generation tramways with MITRAC Energy Saver.
